Support
Where the money goes
The Union has no paid staff and no premises. What comes in goes on reunions, the archive, the perpetual trophy for Sixth Year, and the small costs of keeping past pupils in touch.
What donations pay for
Room hire and the practical costs of the annual reunion. Scanning and storing archive material. The perpetual trophy the PPU awards to a Sixth Year student each year, which stays at the school. Occasional help when a year group is organising its own gathering and needs a hand with the bill.
There is no membership fee. Donations are voluntary, and the accounts are presented in full at the AGM each year.
Ways to give
A one-off or regular donation
The simplest thing. Ask the Treasurer for the Union’s bank details — they are not published on this page until he has confirmed them for the site. If you are giving €250 or more in a year and you are an Irish taxpayer, an approved charity can claim tax relief on the gift under the Charitable Donation Scheme — ask the Treasurer whether the Union qualifies and for the CHY3 form.
Event sponsorship
Businesses and past pupils sometimes underwrite part of a reunion or anniversary evening — a drinks reception, the printing of a programme, or a table for a year group that would otherwise struggle with the cost. If that sounds like something you would consider, talk to the Treasurer.
A table at an event
Taking a table at the Past Pupils Reunion is one of the most useful things a year group can do. Ticket prices are set for each event and published with the booking details.
A bequest
A gift in a will is how longer-term support usually arrives. The Treasurer can provide the correct wording if you or your solicitor need it.
Giving time instead
For a volunteer union, time is often worth more than money.
- Talking to students about your work — a short visit arranged through the school, when careers week or a subject department asks.
- Mentoring — an occasional conversation with a student or recent past pupil who is figuring out the same path you took.
- The Archive — scanning, captioning, or simply bringing in what is still in a box at home.
- Reunions — organising your own year group. The committee will do the admin if you will do the bothering.
Tick “volunteering and mentoring” when you join the mailing list and we will email you when something comes up.
What we spend on ourselves
Almost nothing. Domain registration, and the free tiers that host this website and send its emails. No salaries, no office, no entertainments budget for the committee.
The accounts are presented in full at the AGM each year. Anyone who wants to see the figures should ask the Treasurer.
